  Why do JW's only pick on Birthdays, Holidays, when so many other things are pagan

  i've always wondered this, and with the holidays coming up, why does the watchtower only pick on certain things, and leave other things to question, or to the conscience?.

  Why not do it another day?

  This is a good example of how JWs are taught to discuss things with outsiders and attempt to make their odd beliefs seem reasonable. Your mother was being deceptive even if she didn't know that was what she was doing. If you said "Ok, why not another day? Let's pick a day and we'll do it" she would be forced to back track because the day isn't the issue. The Watchtower just doesn't want their followers celebrating the birth of Jesus. I think the Watchtower views Jesus as someone that has to be kept in his place. Just look at what they have done to the simple celebration of Christian communion. They've turned it into a yearly event where JWs gather together and essentially thumb their noses at Jesus refusing the offer.

  Another reason is that they don't want their follower participating anything that has a community spirit and would bring them closer to none JWs. Cults are all about separation and control.

  It might be good that you waited. They have improved over the years. The first one I had took two batteries instead of one and went through them like crazy. The one I have now works better and the batteries last a lot longer.

  I also hate the fingerboard on my laptop. I just can't use it effectively.

  it was a wealthy (she drove a lexus and was very well dressed) middle aged woman with a younger girl.

  she used the typical line this time of year asking if i knew where the origins of christmas came from.

  Speaking of things that are false how about the Watchtower's false date for Christ return. Orignally the Watchtower through Pyramidology (now there's something good Christians should be dabbling in) claimed 1914 as the year for the end of the world then when that didn't happen they decided to keep the date and just tweak it a little claim it as the year of Christ's return disgarding the old 1874 false date of Christ's return. Of course they didn't figure out he returned in 1914 till 20 or 30 years after 1914. And of course they generation that saw these things (even though they didn't have a clue of what they were seeing) that wouldn't pass away did pass away.

  Those people knocking on your door point out what is wrong with what you believe know very little about their own religion and yet they think that they are experts on yours.

  And then there are the ones that come here ignoring the Watchtower's orders to stay off the internet and not associate with "apostates" trying to get us to obey the very organization that they themselves won't obey. Their presents here proves that the Watchtower isn't worth listening to. Even its own followers won't follow its advice.

And the JW says: "Well, we have two endings to this little JW dream. One is that when you see what it this book is your eyes flash red and horns pop out of your head exposing the devil you are. The other ending is that you read the book, denounce reality and become a brain dead JW like me."

  I listened to the meeting over the phone with my grandmother. This religion is nuts!!

  my grandmother has been a little ill, and had to be put in a facility temporarily.

  she should be getting out sometime next week.

  i'm not particularly close with her, and that probably has a lot to do with my father.

  Jehovah's Witness Run Drug Rehab Clinic?

  last week i was reading an article in oc weekly (a local magazine) entitled "he shall be set free" about one of my neighbors, phil aguilar.

  he is what i guess you would call a christian biker minister.

  in the article where it is speaking about his youth and his addiction to drugs it mentions that he spent a brief stint at a jehovah's witness run rehabilition clinic in oregon.

  Last week I was reading an article in OC Weekly (a local magazine) entitled "He Shall Be Set Free" about one of my neighbors, Phil Aguilar. He is what I guess you would call a Christian biker minister. In the article where it is speaking about his youth and his addiction to drugs it mentions that he spent a brief stint at a Jehovah's Witness run rehabilition clinic in Oregon. Was that possible? Was there ever such a thing as a rehab clinic run by JWs or was it just the drugs that made him believe that he had been to such a clinic?

  So that would mean he was born around 1913. A year before the world was to end or Christ returned depending on which Watchtower lie you point to. 97 years old and didn't learn a damn thing! All I can think of is that he could have done something good with his life and didn't. I'll go back to my room and work on getting a warm fuzzy feeling about him but I don't think it will happen.

  When my jw dies should I go to the service at the hall ?

  i am been shunned by the rest of the jw family, and feel that to make a point when my dad dies my family( ex jw ) will not be going to the service at the kingdom hell.

  we need to get our own back on these morons in the family and see how they like been shunned for not going to weddings and receptions in the family sod them all.. .

  After reading all of the comments I came to the conclusion that everyone has a valid point. How we handle these ridiculous situation the Watchtower creates is all very individual. As RosePetal said "It is all very surreal". I'll add mean spirited and insane.

  I've only gone to one JW funeral. My sister-in-law's. That was the only thing that got me back in a KH for over 25 years. I attended because I was still very close to her and her children even after I left the WT. The talk was given by my wife's cousin who is an elder. Both him and his wife will talk and visit with me so I have somewhat of a normal relationship with them. At least as much as I can have with all the awful circumstances the Watchtower seems so eager to create. Under most circumstances I wouldn't go and I sure they wouldn't want me there. I'm already dead to them and that is fine with me although I should add they are much mistaken.

  A lot of Witnesses that I was friends with in the past have died since I left and I only hear about their deaths through the grapevine. Sometimes I don't learn of their deaths till years after the fact. Everytime I hear of one of their deaths I think about how they expected to not die but live forever in a paradise that was to arrive within their lifetime. I think of how these people were tricked into wasting their lives slaving for an cult when they could have done something worthwhile with their life. I guess in my head I sort of have my own little memorial service for them and throw another scoop of dirt on the grave of the Watchtower.

  How families were broken up by wife’s becoming JW’s back in the 50’s

  there is this sister in the hall i went to who is in her mid 80's.

  she is very active and pioneers, etc.

  well when i was still going to the meetings and out in service she would talk about how she came into the "truth.

  LTS you discribed what I have observed over the years. Families broken up when the husband or wife becomes a JW. If the husband's stick around even if they don't become witnesses they become somewhat isolated from having a normal life because of their JW wives. I'm sure the effect it similar for women whose husbands become JWs. In the case of my father-in-law he never became a JW but his wife and all three of his daughters did. What is really sad is that the damage that has resulted because of this is so very obvious yet none of them can see that most of the problems are a result of one person in the family accepting a so called Bible study with the Witnesses. And we've got it all. Mental illness, suicide, poverty due to a lack of education and growing up to be disfuctional adults. You might not be able to blame it a on the WT but there certainly is a pattern there.

  Mouthy don't you do a lot of good here so don't beat yourself up over the past. You give me hope that there is still a chance that my family members may at some time wake up and escape. If that happens they will need people like you to talk to.

  I particularly like Southern Alberta, Calgary and the surrounding area even though I'm mostly non-readneck. It really is beautiful country.
